Welcome to Aspen Gate.
The first working comic from Evil Studios, co-authored and co-illustrated by Maggie G. and Daniel S.
New?
Everything New!
So, I got bored this one time and helped my lady-friend to make a comic. That turned out to be Aspen Gate, a fun little romp of adventure and magic. We got through a chapter, and the Prologue for said chapter, and posted the Prologue online, here, at this very spot.
Then it died. We didn't do anything to it, or with it - mad depressing.
However, I've got plans.
The first cut was choppy and grainy, and sketchy. I'm trying to copy over, edit and retouch, and then ink, letter and colorize the whole of the Prologue, and then the first chapter. After that, I'll be scanning the lot, setting them to update at two a week, and then working on the new chapters, as well as two Interludes, some side sketches and a lot of backstory and character information accessible online.
The thing is, my lady-friend artist is quite far away at the moment, so I'll be doing the whole of Chapter Two myself! And that's terrible!
It also means that Chapter Two will not advance the plot of the current story at all. Instead, it will be approached as a fill-in-the-gaps sort of thing: A massive flashback to Henna's previous adventures and a bit on Zeke, Mr. Featherly (Henna's dad), and Bishop Friedrich of Rex.
Each will get a mini-chapter, a vignette, if you will, with illustrations and textual excerpts, each presented in a different style.
Look for them soon! The refixed Prologue will be up soon (as soon as I can get to a scanner...), with Chapter One following seamlessly afterward, and finally the Chapter Two bits coming in after yet another quick Interlude.
See you all soon!
Dan
I lied!
I have just lied to you, in my last post. Twice, in fact, both times unintentionally.
You see, I stated that the comic would be updating on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. This was blatantly false, as no 3-a-week schedule could be so silly- it was meant to be Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
But that's a moot point now. You see, we (Mags and myself) have decided that thrice a week was far too rare to update our comic, especially when we have some 20 comics of buffer lined up. That would be two months worth of not posting new things! How silly, no?
So now we're posting every day, at midnight, Central time.
The comics are already loaded onto the site, and automated to show a new 2-panel strip every single damned day until the 18th of August, by which time we should have new stuff to put up on the site.
Hope that the change in schedule isn't too hectic for you,
Daniel S.
The Launch!
Hey all!
If you've come across this comic by chance, welcome in, and I hope you like what you see.
If you're a friend of the author/illustrators, then welcome to our first post, and we hope you like what we've probably already shown you.
First things first I suppose: We have a gimmick- it's that the comic is written and drawn by two people. Doesn't sound astounding?
Well, I should be more specific, then.
Each panel is drawn and written independent of each other panel- first, I'll draw one, fill in the text, and then hand it to Maggie, my partner. She will then draw and write the next panel, and hand it back. In this way, we ensure that neither of us knows what the hell is happening plot-wise, and that the art styles will always be jarring to look upon (just for reference, I'm the left, she's the right).
Now then, that's all you actually need from me, and I suggest that you get to reading!
P.S. Posts will be on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. Hope that's cool with you.
-Daniel S.
